What We’re Looking For:  We are looking for a suitable candidate to join the Networks Operation Team. This team consists of the operators, engineers and technical officers that monitor and operate Icon Water's water and sewerage network infrastructure. The team manages critical assets, responds rapidly to incidents, leads strategic upgrades, and proactively enhances performance to meet evolving business and technology demands.

About this role:  In the role of Headworks Officer you will have primary responsibility for monitoring, operating and maintaining Icon Water’s bulk water supply assets in accordance with Icon Water policies and procedures, and as directed by Icon Water’s Headworks Supervisor and duty Water Distribution Engineer (WDE). These assets include but are not limited to Icon Water’s dams and drinking water catchments, bulk water supply pipelines, and service reservoirs.

Responsibilities of this role:  The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • In accordance with Icon Water’s Dam Safety Surveillance procedures, conduct routine dam and intake tower inspections of Cotter, Bendora, Corin and Googong Dams. Complete associated inspection forms and submit them to the Headworks Supervisor.
  • Conduct routine and scheduled inspections of Icon Waters’s bulk water supply assets including service reservoirs, drinking water catchments, and bulk water pipelines. Complete associated inspection forms and submit them to the Headworks Supervisor.
  • Undertake minor preventative and reactive maintenance tasks on bulk water supply assets as scheduled in Icon Water’s asset system or as directed by the Headworks Supervisor.
  • Perform operational changes on the bulk water supply assets as directed by the WDE or Headworks Supervisor, and in accordance with Icon Water procedures and environmental obligations. These changes include but are not limited to environmental flow changes for Cotter, Bendora, Corin and Googong Dams; operation of valves on the bulk supply network; and chlorination of Cotter and Casurina tanks. 
  • Ensure good site management at Icon Water’s bulk supply assets by participating in scheduled site inspections and reporting any issues; and assisting in organising and co-ordinating required maintenance activities. These activities include but not limited to site security, site access, buildings and grounds maintenance.
  • Use Icon Water’s asset systems to identify tasks and enter job completion details.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to provide 24-hour emergency support for the operation and maintenance of bulk water supply assets; and perform routine dam inspections as required by Icon Water’s Dam Safety Surveillance procedures. 
  • Interpret standards, guidelines and procedures to safely execute work in accordance with these documents; while reporting any procedural issues to Coordinator Headworks.
  • Work effectively within Networks branch to meet relevant Key Performance Indicators targets.

Who we are looking for:  We are looking for suitable candidates with the following qualifications, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience in or understanding of, the operation and maintenance of large mechanical and hydraulic equipment, preferably related to water supply. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of use and functions of water supply system assets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental requirements relating to water supply assets and their operation.
  • Experience (or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn) in using computing systems for the purpose of issuing work packs, entering job details and reviewing operational data.
  • Possess a current drivers and boat  licence.
  • Dam Safety certified (preferable).
