Job Description
Job Description
About this role:
We’re looking for a creative storyteller who can turn complex ideas into clear, engaging and accessible content for the Canberra community. Writing is the core of this role: you’ll develop accurate, audience-focused copy that people want to read, understand and act on.
As a Copywriting and Content Officer, you’ll bring Icon Water’s voice to life through high-quality written content for websites, social media, newsletters, campaigns, education materials, and external communications. You’ll work with subject matter experts across the business to find the essential story, translate technical information into plain English and tailor messages for different audiences and channels. You may also support visual content, but your ability to write and edit exceptionally well will be central to your success.
What you’ll do:
Write and edit clear, engaging and accurate copy for web, social media, newsletters, education materials, campaigns, events, and internal and external communications
Turn technical or complex information into plain-English content that is easy to understand and useful to its audience
Support the development of campaign concepts and copy, including headlines, key messages, scripts, calls to action and supporting content
Draft, proofread, schedule and publish content across digital channels
Learn and use our CMS and internal platforms
Work closely with subject matter experts to gather information, check facts and shape accurate, meaningful messages
Coordinate your work to meet deadlines and keep stakeholders informed
Apply our brand and style guidelines consistently across everything you produce
Occasionally support after-hours communications, events and media-related activities.
What you’ll bring:
Demonstrated copywriting and editing skills, with a strong command of grammar, structure, tone and plain English
Experience writing for digital platforms and different audiences, supported by a portfolio or examples of published work
The ability to translate complex or technical information into concise, accurate and accessible copy
An eye for design and basic multimedia skills are useful
Relevant qualifications or practical experience in communications, marketing or a similar field.
Who you are
You’re someone who:
Enjoys coming up with new ideas and is comfortable taking initiative
Pays attention to the details that make content accurate and polished
Organises your work effectively and keeps things moving
Values collaboration and builds strong working relationships.
Adapts quickly when priorities shift, and ensures alignment with Icon Water’s strategic focus areas
What we offer:
The chance to produce meaningful, high-quality writing that reaches the Canberra community
A supportive team environment where creativity is encouraged
Opportunities to grow your copywriting, editing and campaign-content skills
How to apply: If you’re a strong communications professional who can make complex information clear, engaging and useful, we’d love to hear from you.
